PPS Mourns Bob Sexton

Parents for Public Schools mourns the loss of Dr. Robert F. Sexton, executive director of the Prichard Committee for Academic Excellence in Lexington, Kentucky.

Bob Sexton led the Prichard Committee since its creation in 1983, building the grassroots organization into a nationally recognized model of citizen engagement on behalf of improving education at all levels.

PPS has long enjoyed a strong partnership with the Prichard Committee. Together, we have developed a strong parental engagement curriculum for our Parent Leadership Institute that is offered through our Schoolhouse to Statehouse effort in Mississippi.

You can read more about Dr. Shelton, his legacy, and the outstanding work of the Prichard Committee here.

Birdies for PPS

Parents for Public Schools (PPS) is taking part in a new fundraising effort as part of the PGA Tour’s Viking Classic Tournament, to be held September 27 – October 3 at the Annandale Golf Club in Madison, Mississippi. Birdies For Charity raises money for participating charities by collecting tax-deductible pledges based on the number of birdies made by PGA golfers during the Viking Classic.

You can make support PPS by donating at least two cents for each birdie in the tournament. PPS will receive 100 percent of collected pledges. Between 1,400 and 1,800 birdies are expected during the four-day tournament. Download the pledge form for more information on Birdies For Charity. You may even win a Viking 41” Ultra-Premium Grill!

PPS National, PPS-Jackson (MS), and PPS-Springfield (IL) are actively participating in the pledge drive. You can contact them directly to make your pledge. You can also make a pledge in the name of any chapter by completing the National pledge form and indicating your chapter preference.

PPS is always looking for opportunities to provide more resources to parents working in our public schools. We hope this will be a fun way to further our work.
