DEVELOPING A FUNDRAISING WORKPLAN
This one-and-a-half-day fundraising workshop was intended as a follow-up to "Simple Steps to Successful Fundraising," a comprehensive fundraising toolkit that all PPS chapters received in June 2005. The invitation was an open call to chapter members across the country and an opportunity for participants to develop fundraising strategies and to create a tailored fundraising workplan.
Participants were a real cross-section of chapters: volunteer-based to staffed; from old to new groups; budgets that ranged from $7,000 to $300,000; and stable to those in re-organization mode. Everyone left invigorated and determined to make fundraising a chapter priority. PPSN's charge is to keep that momentum going by regular follow-up with this cohort of six chapters to see how far they have advanced in implementing their fundraising funds. We will continue to be a resource to all chapters in these efforts.
Based on the outstanding feedback of the usefulness of this workshop, we want to offer the same training this fall.
COMMENTS FROM WORKSHOP PARTICIPANTS: "The detailed sheets presented on how to be realistic in fundraising and how to assign and track various projects will be most helpful to keep projects from falling through the cracks...Meeting new people involved in the effort is always uplifting. Sometimes you feel you are out there on an island all alone. Sharing ideas and 'war' stories is always fund and educational." Cincinnati PPS
"The PPS National's Fundraising Workshop was just what our chapter needed: a step-by-step guide and approach to building our fundraising plan for our chapter - plus it provided us a chance to network with other amazing PPS folks! The workshop was an appropriate balance of practical and theoretical...I learned a great deal about programs and strategies (unrelated to fundraising) that I want to explore for our own chapter." PPS of San Francisco
"I would like to encourage all chapters to sign up for upcoming PPS training sessions...You will leave with a notebook full of strategies, tried and true tips, and newfound friends from all over the country...The fundraising workshop should be on your must attend list." PPS of Pitt County
"What a great informational session for chapters - It was a wonderful opportunity to share stories and ideals with other PPS chapters as well as the one-on-one guidance that was given on ways to go after funds in our respective communities." PPS of Syracuse
"The fundraising workshop should help us get organized to seek funding for a number of programs we have been talking about over the last several years...I very much enjoyed meeting all the other chapter participants and sharing ideas...This should be an annual event so chapters can assess and adjust their fundraising activities on a regular basis." Springfield PPS
"We were empowered by learning how to do a work plan for fundraising and enjoyed hearing about work plans for other chapters who had similar goals and problems in raising money. We felt it gave us a new perception in ways to fundraise and we are very eager to use PPS' "Simple Steps to Successful Fundraising" as reference thruout the upcoming year." PPS of Jefferson Davis County."
"I receive packages of grant opportunities often, and have checked many that apply to our work, but have not pursued them. As a result of the workshop, I have the steps I need to take to put some feet to those checkmarks and begin applying for grants...Thank you for making room at the table for us, and giving us more tools for our toolkit." Illinois Family Partnership Network (potential partner AND a friend of PPS)
